Kinoomaadoog
Cultural and Historical Research project has been in operation since
October 2001 and was initiated to research M’Chigeeng Nishnaabek
history, customs, language and rights in order to broaden, restore,
strengthen and teach Nishnaabe-bmaadziwin (Ojibwe lifestyle) to the
present and future generations.
Kinoomaadoog has worked
towards this multi-varied, interrelated goal by delivering presentations
and producing newsletters to the M’Chigeeng community. The staff of
Kinoomaadoog have also assisted teachers at Lakeview school in the
development of Ojibwe language lessons and Native studies for
kindergarten to Grade 8. More recently Kinoomaadoog staff have
participated in M’Chigeeng’s fight with the federal government to have
M’Chigeeng’s Custom Election Code recognized. M’Chigeeng’s legal
counsel, has asked Kinoomaadoog’s research coordinator, Alan Corbiere to
act as expert witness for the Custom Elections court case. Currently,
the primary focus of Kinoomaadoog research and resources is the
M’Chigeeng court case. However, through the course of researching this
case, multiple interrelated issues will be examined.
